From both airports to Hotel Dora Istanbul

The short answer: from Istanbul Airport (IST), take the M11 metro to Gayrettepe, change to the M2 and get off at Taksim, then walk or taxi ten minutes downhill to the hotel; allow 50 to 65 minutes in total. From Sabiha Gokcen (SAW), the Havabus shuttle to Taksim Square is the simplest public option. Details, hours and alternatives follow.

Istanbul Airport (IST) by metro

  1. Follow the metro signs inside the terminal to the M11 station. The M11 Gayrettepe to Istanbul Airport line is 69 km long, the longest in the Istanbul Metro network, per Wikipedia. Buy an Istanbulkart from the machines before the gates; one card can be used by your whole party.
  2. Ride the M11 to Gayrettepe, the end of the line. The trip takes about 30 minutes and trains run every 8 to 10 minutes between 06:00 and 00:00, per istairportistanbul.com.
  3. At Gayrettepe, transfer to the M2 line toward Yenikapi. The interchange involves a signed underground walk that travelers on Tripadvisor report takes around 11 to 15 minutes, so do not plan the connection too tightly.
  4. Get off at Taksim, three stops later. Exit toward Taksim Square.
  5. Walk about 10 minutes downhill via Tarlabasi Boulevard side streets to Dolapdere Cd. No 33, or take a short taxi from the square. With luggage, the taxi is the comfortable choice.

Total journey time from IST to Taksim is typically 50 to 65 minutes including the interchange. For a full picture of the airport itself, terminals and arrivals flow, see the independent guide at istanbulairport.org.

Istanbul Airport (IST) by Havaist shuttle

Havaist airport buses connect IST with Taksim; the airport's official transportation page lists Taksim among the served destinations. The bus drops you at Taksim, leaving the same 10-minute downhill walk or short taxi to the hotel. Check the current timetable and fares on the official site before you fly, as both change.

Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) options

  1. Havabus shuttle: the official Sabiha Gokcen airport site confirms Havabus runs between SAW and Taksim. Buses operate daily roughly between 04:15 and 00:30, per The Istanbul Insider. From Taksim, walk or taxi the last ten minutes.
  2. Metro: take the M4 from the airport, connect via Marmaray and the M2 to Taksim. It works, but with two transfers the journey runs around 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, so the bus is usually easier with luggage.
  3. Taxi or private car: SAW is on the Asian side, so allow 60 to 90 minutes to Taksim depending on Bosphorus bridge traffic.

Private transfer

If you land late, travel with children or simply want a driver waiting with a name sign, a pre-booked private transfer takes the transfers out of the equation. You can arrange a fixed-price door-to-door car from either airport through Transfelo, which serves both IST and SAW and drops you directly at Dolapdere Cd. No 33.

Gokarvan is another platform worth checking for fixed-price IST and SAW transfers: the fare is locked when you book, no membership is required, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. Vehicles range from sedans and minivans to VIP cars and minibuses, and the driver tracks your flight and meets you in arrivals with a name board.

Once you are settled, the getting around page covers the metro, funicular, tram and ferry network from the hotel, and the hour-by-hour Beyoglu plan turns your first day into a route.
